Golfing in Cancún & Riviera Maya: Where to Play in Winter 2027
Thinking about escaping the cold for a golf trip this winter?
Cancún and Riviera Maya should be on your list.
Mexico's Caribbean coast combines warm winter weather, beautiful beaches, outstanding resorts and excellent golf — making it particularly attractive for golfers traveling in January, February and March 2027.
And you don't need to wait until you arrive in Mexico to organize your golf.
With Golf Mexico Tee Times, you can book your Cancún and Riviera Maya golf before you leave home and arrive knowing your tee times are already arranged.
Why Play Golf in Cancún & Riviera Maya?
Golf on Mexico's Caribbean coast feels completely different from playing in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta.
Cabo is known for desert terrain and dramatic ocean scenery. Puerto Vallarta combines tropical vegetation with mountains and the Pacific.
Cancún and Riviera Maya give golfers a Caribbean golf experience.
Expect tropical vegetation, limestone terrain, mangroves, wetlands, water hazards and resort-style golf surrounded by the natural landscape of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Then finish your round and head back to some of Mexico's most famous beaches.
Where Can You Play?
The Cancún and Riviera Maya region offers a strong collection of golf courses stretching from Cancún south through Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.
Depending on where you're staying, you'll find championship golf close to many of the area's major resorts.
El Camaleón Mayakoba
El Camaleón at Mayakoba is one of the region's most recognizable golf courses.
Designed by Greg Norman, the course moves through three distinctly different environments — tropical jungle, mangrove wetlands and areas alongside the Caribbean Sea.
It's a course many serious golfers will want on their Riviera Maya itinerary.
Riviera Maya Golf Club
Riviera Maya Golf Club provides another excellent golf experience farther south along the Riviera Maya.
The course works through the region's natural jungle and tropical terrain, creating a distinctly Mexican Caribbean setting.
For golfers staying farther south of Playa del Carmen, its location can also make it a convenient addition to a vacation.
Playa Paraíso Golf Club
Playa Paraíso Golf Club is another popular Riviera Maya option.
The layout combines tropical vegetation, water and resort golf, making it a natural choice for travelers staying in the Playa Paraíso area and nearby resorts.
Puerto Cancún Golf
If you're staying closer to Cancún itself, Puerto Cancún gives golfers a convenient option without traveling deep into Riviera Maya.
Its location makes it particularly useful for golfers who want to combine a round with a Cancún hotel or resort vacation.
Cancún or Riviera Maya — Where Should You Stay?
This is important when planning your golf.
The Cancún and Riviera Maya region covers a large area.
If you're staying in Cancún, a golf course well south of Playa del Carmen may require considerably more travel time than you expect.
If you're staying in Playa del Carmen or Riviera Maya, courses farther south or around Mayakoba may be much more convenient.
Before choosing your courses, look at where your hotel is located and how far you'll need to travel on golf day.
Don't choose your tee times based only on the course name — consider the drive as well.
January, February & March Are Excellent Months for Golf
For golfers escaping winter in the United States and Canada, the first three months of the year are an excellent time to head south.
Instead of snow, frozen greens and layers of winter clothing, you're playing golf in a tropical Caribbean destination.
That's also why winter is a popular travel period.
If you know there are particular courses you want to play during your Winter 2027 vacation, don't wait until you arrive to start looking for tee times.
Morning Golf Works Great on a Resort Vacation
One of our favorite ways to combine golf with a Cancún or Riviera Maya vacation is to play early.
Book a morning tee time, enjoy your round and then head back to the resort for the afternoon.
You still have plenty of time for the beach, pool, restaurants or activities with your family.
There's just one problem:
A lot of other golfers have exactly the same idea.
If a desirable morning tee time is important to you, book your golf early rather than assuming you'll find something after arriving.
Staying at an All-Inclusive Resort?
Cancún and Riviera Maya are famous for their all-inclusive resorts, and golf can fit extremely well into that type of vacation.
But don't assume that because your hotel is close to a golf course, your preferred tee time will automatically be available.
Your resort reservation and your golf reservation are two different things.
If golf is important to your trip, arrange it in advance.
Should You Bring Your Golf Clubs?
If you're planning several rounds, bringing your own clubs may make sense.
If you're only playing once or twice, rental clubs can make traveling much easier.
Many courses offer rental equipment, but availability, brands and pricing vary.
If you need rental clubs — especially left-handed, women's or another specific setup — arrange them before your golf day whenever possible.
What Should You Bring?
You're playing golf in the Caribbean, so prepare for warm conditions and plenty of sun.
- Lightweight golf clothing
- Golf shoes
- Hat or visor
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Golf glove
- Plenty of water
- Light rain protection if the forecast calls for it
Check the local forecast shortly before your round rather than assuming every winter day will have identical conditions.
Book Before You Leave Home
The last thing you want is to fly all the way to Cancún, check into your resort and then discover that the course or morning tee time you wanted isn't available.
If golf is important to your vacation, make your tee times part of your travel planning.
Book your flights.
Book your hotel.
Book your golf.
Then arrive in Mexico with your golf already organized.
