Mexico Golf in January, February & March 2027: What Golfers Should Know

Snow at home. Sunshine in Mexico. Golf clubs in the bag.

It's not difficult to understand why January, February and March are such popular months for golfers heading south.

Whether you're planning a Winter 2027 trip to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Cancún or Riviera Maya, Mexico offers outstanding golf and warm-weather destinations when many courses across the United States and Canada are dealing with winter conditions.

But there's one mistake you don't want to make:

Flying all the way to Mexico and discovering that the course or tee time you wanted is full.

At Golf Mexico Tee Times, we've been helping golfers arrange their Mexico golf for more than 15 years. Here's what you should know if you're planning to play in January, February or March 2027.

January Through March Is Prime Mexico Golf Season

Winter is one of the most attractive times of year to play golf in Mexico.

You're escaping cold weather at home and heading to destinations known for sunshine, resorts, beaches and excellent golf.

Of course, you're not the only person with that idea.

Winter brings visitors from across the United States, Canada and other parts of the world to Mexico's major resort destinations.

That means golfers should think about their tee times before they get on the airplane.

Don't Arrive in Mexico and Then Start Looking for Golf

The last thing you want is to spend thousands of dollars on flights, hotels and a Mexico vacation only to discover that the golf course you wanted to play doesn't have the tee time you wanted.

If golf matters to your vacation, treat your tee times the same way you treat your airline and hotel reservations.

Book them before you leave.

This becomes particularly important if you:

  • Want to play a specific golf course
  • Prefer morning tee times
  • Are traveling with a larger golf group
  • Want to play several different courses
  • Are visiting during a holiday or particularly busy travel period

The more specific your plans are, the earlier you should start arranging your golf.

Why Morning Tee Times Matter

For many vacation golfers, morning is the ideal time to play.

You can enjoy your round before the hottest part of the day and still have the afternoon available for the beach, pool, restaurants, sightseeing or spending time with your family.

That's also why desirable morning tee times can be popular.

If you have your heart set on playing a particular course at 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning, don't assume that time will still be waiting for you when you arrive.

Golf in Cabo During January, February & March

Los Cabos is an excellent winter golf destination for golfers who enjoy dry desert landscapes, mountains and dramatic ocean scenery.

Cabo's golf experience is unlike traditional tropical resort golf.

Expect cactus, desert terrain, natural arroyos and mountain backdrops combined with views of the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez.

The region also has courses designed by some of golf's biggest names.

If you're planning a dedicated Cabo golf trip and want to play several courses, organizing those rounds in advance is particularly important.

Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit in Winter

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit offer a completely different winter golf experience.

Here you'll find tropical vegetation, the Sierra Madre mountains and Banderas Bay.

Golfers can choose from courses including Vidanta, Vista Vallarta, El Tigre, Marina Vallarta and Flamingos.

You can even play the Greg Norman-designed Vidanta Vallarta course used for the PGA TOUR's Mexico Open.

Puerto Vallarta works particularly well for travelers who want to combine several rounds of golf with beaches, restaurants and a traditional resort vacation.

Cancún & Riviera Maya in January, February & March

On Mexico's Caribbean coast, Cancún and Riviera Maya provide another completely different setting.

Expect warm weather, tropical vegetation, wetlands, mangroves and Caribbean resort scenery.

This region is particularly attractive for golfers staying at all-inclusive resorts who want to add one or more rounds to their vacation.

Don't assume, however, that staying at a resort automatically means you'll be able to get the exact golf time you want.

Reserve your golf before your trip.

January vs. February vs. March – Is There a Best Month?

All three months can be excellent for a Mexico golf vacation.

January is ideal for escaping the middle of winter and is a popular travel period.

February continues the prime winter season and is especially attractive to golfers escaping colder northern climates.

March brings warmer conditions in many destinations and can coincide with busy spring travel periods.

Rather than choosing solely based on the month, consider the destination, the courses you want to play and your overall vacation schedule.

What Should You Pack for Mexico Golf?

Mexico golf is generally warm-weather golf, but don't pack as if you're only going to the beach.

Consider bringing:

  • Lightweight golf shirts and shorts
  • Golf shoes
  • Hat or visor
  • Sunglasses
  • Plenty of sunscreen
  • A light layer for cooler early mornings
  • Your preferred golf glove
  • Any personal golf accessories you normally use

Temperatures and conditions vary considerably between Cabo's desert climate, Puerto Vallarta's tropical Pacific setting and the Caribbean climate around Cancún and Riviera Maya.

Check the forecast for your actual destination shortly before you travel.

Should You Bring Your Own Golf Clubs?

That depends on how much golf you're planning to play.

If you're building your vacation around four or five rounds, bringing your own clubs may make sense.

If you're playing only once or twice, rental clubs may be considerably easier than traveling with a golf bag.

Many Mexico golf courses offer rental equipment, but availability and brands vary.

If you need rentals — particularly left-handed, women's or another specific setup — arrange them in advance whenever possible.

Then arrive in Mexico knowing your golf has already been arranged.
